The Art of Bonsai

The compositional drawing was inspired by Jim Dine’s use of movement. This movement can be seen as the “shadowy” trail of the Bonsai Scissors. Bonsai Scissors represent perfection and are used to cut out the faults and impurities of a Bonsai tree. This task of trimming is very intricate and requires a lot of attention. This task is often considered an art itself, and much like the tree, art must be cared for. The symbolism of the Bonsai perfectly captures the importance and care that art requires. This care can be seen in the drawing itself with its intricate structures and shadows.
